Decking Planner

This page allows you to predict how many decking boards would be required for a decking area. It does not take into account the underlying joists or an edge. All measurements are in millimeters, but I suppose you could think of them as whatever unit of measurement you prefer.

In theory, this could be built with 0 boards, but it's probably best to buy 0...

You may want to add an edge
You may want to add an edge
If adding an edge, you will need to measure the size of the decking area and consider that it will need to travel past the decking area to be flush with the other edge faces.
Some decking boards may arrive warped or damaged
Bows, crooks, kinks, cups and twists might cause some of the boards to be unusable or unsuitable in some places, causing you to have to cut a piece early or to scrap it entirely.

An offcut may be too small to reach an underlying joist
An offcut may be too small to reach an underlying joist
Each end of a decking board will ideally be attached to a joist. This is likely not to be always possible without cutting a piece earlier than expected.
We all make mistakes
It's always good to have some boards spare in case an incorrect measurement results in an unusable piece of wood. If it all goes well, you now have plenty of scrap wood for more fun projects.
